LIST NUMBER ONE

You should know the benefits of the foods that you buy and eat. After spending much of my time doing a research, I came up with this this article which is more like a summary featuring many different foods and their usefulness or importance to our bodies.

In this part of the article I will talk about beans, carrots, grapes, apricots, spinach, peanuts, cucumber, oranges, coconut, turnips, leek, tomato, potato, pepper, cabbage, chard, radish, alfalfa and popcorn.

BEANS

  • Help to prevent hair loss, good for hypertension, works for constipation, cholesterol and anemia.

CARROTS- eaten raw or cooked.

- Rich in beta- carotene, vitamin B, C, D, E and K. Has iron, calcium, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, and sulphur.

- Good for eyes, skin problems, diarrhoea, excess gastric acid, and helps to prevent cancer.

grapes

- are good for cardiovascular disease, thrombosis, anemia, liver problems cancer prevention, gout, renal problems, excess uric aid and constipation.

-help to balance friendly flora in the intestines.

APRICOTS

- Good for eyes, anemia, skin problems, lack of appetite, depression and nervousness.

SPINACH- cook it for a short period of time because cooking for a long timedestroys nutrients.

  • Rich in beta- carotene, Vitamin C, useful fatty acids, calcium, potassium, zinc, iron and magnesium.
  • Strengthens the liver, good for eyes, anemia, high cholesterol level, pregnancy, physical activity and growth.

PEANUTS

  • Rich in protein and essential fatty acids.
  • Energy giving helps with skin problems, heart problems and hypertension.

CUCUMBER

  • Good for skin problems, constipation, gout, obesity and diabetes.

ORANGES

  • Rich in vitamin C.
  • Good for coughs and colds, gout, cancer prevention, eye problems, and constipation.

COCONUT- rich in minerals can be eaten fresh or dry.

  • Digestive problems, dehydration and fever.

TURNIPS- rich in calcium.

  • Good for obesity and gout.

LEEK

  • Good for sinus, bronchitis, constipation and excess uric acid.

TOMATO

  • Alkalizes blood, good for the immune system, arteries, and protects you from prostate cancer.

POTATO- energy giving carbohydrate.

- Good for the stomach, heart attack, kidney problems, obesity and diabetes.

PEPPER

- works for stomach disorders, constipation, diabetes, obesity and prevents cancer of the digestive system.

CABBAGE- works best when eaten raw.

- Rich in calcium, sulphur, vitamin A and C.

- Prevents cancer, intestinal disorders and parasites, heart disease, obesity, diabetes, scurvy, boosts immune system, controls infections including skin infections and heals ulcers.

chard

- Cook for a short period of time because cooking for a long timedestroys nutrients.

  • Rich in beta- carotene, Vitamin C, useful fatty acids, calcium, potassium, zinc, iron and magnesium.
  • Purifies and alkalizes blood.
  • helps to relieve constipation
  • It is also good for obesity and anemia.

radish

  • Promotes production of bile.
  • Helps with liver, gall bladder and digestive disorders.
  • Good for respiratory disorders.
  • Helps to protect you from cancer.

Alfalfa

  • Eaten as a sprout, contains proteins and live enzymes, and acts as a tonic.

popcorn

  • is a good source of zinc.

I hope by reading this article you have learnt something new about the foods you eat.

TIP OF THE DAY: Always make time for breakfast. If you skip breakfast you will find it difficult to concentrate and it also reduces performance and progress most especially in school going children.

    This is a continuation of the list above which features over sixty different foods and their usefulness or importance to your body. This list includes spices, herbs, fruits, vegetables etc.

    Cashew nuts- Magnesium rich.

    - Help withspasms,irritability, weakness, tiredness and nervousness.

    lettuce

    - helps with failure to sleep, tension, anxiety or stress

    MANGO

    • Good for eyes, helps prevent heart attacks, good for hypertension and diabetes.

    peas

    - are good for heart disease, pregnancy and breast feeding, diabetes, unable to sleep and depression

    peaches

    - Ideal for heart disease, digestive problems, obesity as well as foe kidney problems.

    bananas- Rich in Potassium and vitamin C.

    - Good for diarrhoea, diabetes, gout and coronary disease.

    walnuts- works for sexual problems

    - Energy giving, good for coronary diseases and insomnia.

    - Increases men's potency and improves a woman's sexual response.

    broccoli

    - Works for heart problems, cancer and diabetes.

    sour sop

    - promotes bile discharge

    - Good for constipation, obesity, diabetes and hypertension.

    guavaS- Steam them if you can. They are rich in vitamin C.

    - help to reduce hypertension, physical fatigue and cholesterol.

    - Also good for those who want to stop smoking.

    pear

    - help to reduce hypertension and or BP, uric acid and digestive problems.

    cassava

    - Cook for a short period of time because cooking for a long timedestroys nutrients.

    • Rich in beta- carotene, Vitamin C, useful fatty acids, calcium, potassium, zinc, iron and magnesium.
    • Helps with liver problems, ulcers, too much stomach acid and celiac disease.

    STRAWBERRIES- this is the fruit that contains the most antioxidant.

    - They help reduce excess uric acid and constipation

    grape fruit

    - Helps to unblock the arteries, cleanse the blood and protect you against cancer.

    beetroots- Rich in vitamin A, B and C.

    - Contains calcium, phosphorus, sodium, iron, magnesium and potassium.

    - Act as a tonic and cleanser. Good for the liver and blood.

    BARLEY AND WHOLE OATS

    • They are rich in vitamins and minerals because they are not refined.

    SOYA

    • Is completely protein.

    YOGHURT

    • Contains friendly bacteria or flora. That's why when you take antibiotic medicines you are supposed to eat yoghurt to replace friendly bacteria which is destroyed by the antibiotics.
    • Contains proteins, calcium, potassium, phosphorus and vitamin B.
    • Helps to prevent diarrhoea.

    FISH e.g. sardines, mackerel, salmon and tuna

    • Fish contains fatty acids and omega 3 which help to reduce infections and boosts immune system.
    • Fish also contains calcium, phosphorus, iron, potassium and magnesium.

    In the second part of this article I will look at the following;

    • Cayenne, cinnamon, cloves, coriander, ginger, rooibos tea and turmeric.
    • Lemon, passion fruit, onion, cauliflower, papaya, avocado, apple and egg plant,
    • Rice and liver.
    • A few important nutrition and cooking tips.

    I advise you to grow your on fruits and vegetables at home because it will be less costly and healthier, because no chemicals will be added for growing them.

    Do not eat too much of the same thing because too much of anything or everything is bad.
